Sania has been with Balo from 6.
Sania lived in the countryside with her family and paralyzed father. They often did not have enough money to eat because the father is unable to work. Sania had rickets, a common syndrome in children lacking proper nutrition and vitamin D and calcium.
Sania was accepted to the Balo school when she was 6 and attended regularly, but she would often fall asleep in class due to the long daily commute from the village to the school. The Balo community recognized that she would be more successful if she stayed at Casa Balo where she could have regular meals and a short walk to school. Sania’s parents agreed. Currently, Sania visits her village on Saturday mornings with her mother’s supervision and returns to Casa Balo on Sunday afternoons. She often comes back with lice, but she is joyful and grateful for her warm bed, gentle care, and consistent meals.
