Come to Kolkata and experience the unique opportunity of being part of the Balo community.
Attend school and afternoon activities with the children. Sharing their days, joys, and challenges. Enjoy the opportunity to share your skills, vocation, and education. Expand their frame of reference by demonstrating and explaining your culture.
Duration: We recommend for a first experience staying at least one week up to one month.
Volunteers need to be flexible and adaptable to the harsh realities of life in the slums. While the school provides a warm, safe, and protected environment, suffering and poverty are unavoidable features in the community.
Volunteers should be prepared to observe, listen, and share with the staff and children. Volunteers should have basic knowledge of English with the self confidence to carry out activities within the Balo community. Students enjoy lessons in music, sports, dance, drawing, and do-it-yourself projects.
Travel and accommodation costs are the responsibility of the volunteer, but we are happy to assist in locating comfortable places within the volunteer’s budget. Meals during work hours are provided by Balo.
